I think black or glod would look stunning. Light pink would wash you out since it would be so close to your skin color. I don't think I would reccomend silver or white either. If your skin is paler and pink toned then you are going to want to stay away from light pinks because it will be too matchy and not at all complimentary. Blue also generally works well for redheads- Look at how stunning Marcia Cross looked at the SAG awards. Although purple is considered the most universally complimentary color it is touch and go when it comes to red hair and pale skin... It's looks nice, but pick a purple that is more blue based then red/ pink. Black or silver may also look really nice, but it's your prom and it's a spring dance- some color would be great. They made a knock off version of the dress Keira Knightly wore in atonement that would look killer on a redhead.

make sure you try it on before buyingits important that you are comfortable in the dress you dont want to be uncomfortable when your gonna be dancing adn having fun all night :) another thing is make sure your not just getting the dress for the cost...the price does NOT matter as long as you like it then you should be fine!!

Ask a friend to come with you to the fabric store (or your mom, if she will). Don't wear any makeup and wear a white low neck t-shirt under your jacket. Take a good sized make-up mirror with you in your purse, too.
When at the fabric store, go to the bins they usually have there with odds and ends swatches and choose some swatches that are solid colors. Get a good variety of blue, green, red, yellow and the colors in between. Especially good for light skinned red-heads is usually green, red, dark purple and turquoise.
Now take your swatches to a part of the store that has good lighting (preferably natural day-light) and while your mom holds up the mirror so you can see your face, hold each color swatch up around your neck close to your face. You will be able to see which colors compliment you and which colors fade you out. Ask your mom to give her opinion and even passers by if you two don't agree. Once you find a basic color that looks good, check on variations of the color.. like if red is good for you, check *******, pink, etc.

NO RED at all, and some pale colors are ok, but i would not do pink, or peach. they're too close to your hair color to "go".
