You can expect she'll be a good stylist and before doing anything not pictured she'll ask you if you like it and might even give you some good suggestions for your face and dress (bring your dress or at least a pic of it)

My mom is a cosmotologist so I've been through this soooo many times. You shouldn't wash your hair before you go to the salon. Wash it the day before. Your hair holds style better when it is a little bit dirty. You can bring pictures and any pins, clips or hair jewelry that you want to be put into your hair but the salon should have bobby pins to keep your hair in place, so don't worry about them. I suggest you make an early appointment before the date of the prom to do a test run on your hair to make sure the style is possible on your hair and that you like it. When you make the appointment the day of prom, do it around lunch time, no later than two because I'm sure they will be booked and you may have to wait. Also, when you go, wear a button up shirt so that you don't have to pull it off over your hair when you go to put on your dress. Hope your prom is as fun as all of mine were...I miss those days :'(
